Map Ticketing Categories to Calendar Categories
Category mapping helps visitors browse imported events by type, genre, series, location, or another grouping that comes from the ticketing platform.
Use this when you want to:
- Let visitors filter events by genre or type.
- Keep imported categories aligned with your WordPress calendar.
- Turn ticketing metadata into useful website navigation.
- Avoid manually assigning categories after every import.
Start Simple
Do not make category mapping the first setup step.
First confirm that events are importing correctly. Then decide which categories are actually useful for visitors.
What Can Be Mapped
The available source data depends on the ticketing platform:
- Ticketsolve can provide tags and properties.
- ActiveTickets can provide genres and subgenres.
- Ticketmatic can provide genres and production-related data.
The destination depends on the calendar plugin. The Events Calendar uses event categories. Sugar Calendar uses calendars rather than a generic event-category setting in Jeero.
Good Mapping Rules
Good category mapping is small and predictable:
- Map only categories visitors understand.
- Avoid internal ticketing labels when they are not useful on the website.
- Keep the first import simple, then add mapping once the event list is correct.
- Review category names before using them in public navigation.
When to Ask for Help
Send me your event list and the filters you want visitors to use. I can help decide whether to map ticketing categories, use calendar assignment, create custom fields, or keep categories out of the first version.
